This Thursday September 1st begins in La Barca de la Florida (Jerez de la Frontera) the initiative 1,000 km against cancer, which aims to cover the distance that separates the Cadiz town from Santiago de Compostela in just 28 days, which equivalent to 28 marathons and all to raise funds for research into cancer stem cells.

The protagonist of this challenge is Juan Pedro Orellana, a runner who beat cancer and begin to participate in long distance races. Now the new challenge is to spend the next 28 days running the Via de la Plata, crossing Cadiz, Seville, Badajoz, Cáceres, Salamanca, Zamora, Tras-os-Montes e Alto Douro, Ourense, Pontevedra and A Coruña until he reaches his destination, although he will not be alone, because anyone can sign up to perform one of the stages of the initiative.

The initiative of Juan Pedro seeks on the one hand awareness of how necessary investment in stem cell research to fight cancer and on the other hand, raise funds for a research group at the University of Granada, led by professor Juan A.
