Camino Blanco-Camino Antártico: The Antarctic pilgrimage to Santiago in 62 photographs

This Monday, January 9th, the photographic exhibition  'Camino Blanco - Camino Antártico: De la Antártida a Santiago de Compostela' was presented at the Main Post Office in Madrid, on the expedition of 100 'pingüirinos' that arrived last July to the Cathedral of Santiago, having traveled 14,075 kilometers from the Spanish Antarctic base Gabriel de Castilla in an unprecedented expedition. Among the pilgrims were 60 sailors from the Spanish research vessel Hespérides, 12 soldiers from the Army and more than twenty scientists who ventured by land and sea to begin this journey, documented in 62 photographs of these 100 pilgrims who are now shown to Public until January 28 at the Cibeles Palace in the capital.

The exhibition is the brief summary of an initiative carried out by the Spanish Federation of Associations of Friends of the Camino de Santiago in collaboration with the IGN (National Geographic Institute), organizations that are working side by side at the moment to document and map all the roads to Santiago that run through Spain. In order for the pilgrimage project to become a reality, authorizations and collaboration were requested to place a sign of the so-called "White Road" at the Antarctic Base Gabriel de Castilla, as well as providing the first pilgrims with accreditations to document their journey, which has made it possible to start the most extensive Jacobean route to date, which is expected to be traveled by other 'pingüirinos' in the future.
