De la Antártida a Santiago de Compostela

Last July, Santiago de Compostela received some rather unusual pilgrims. Obradoiro Square arrived representatives of the Antarctic base Gabriel de Castilla, ending the longest Jacobean route ever (14,075 km): the First Antarctic Pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela.

The initiative was based on the collaboration between the Spanish Federation of Friends of the Camino de Santiago and the National Geographic Institute, who obtained the help and collaboration necessary to establish a signal to start the Camino from this Antarctic base. After placing the signal and the beginning of the pilgrimage of up to a hundred members of the Antarctic base (between military and scientific), a new Jacobean route was baptized: the White Road or Antarctic Road.

The pilgrims left the Antarctic base for Spain and made the last stages of the Portuguese Way to Santiago de Compostela. The adventure of this 14,075 km pilgrimage is the protagonist of the photographic exhibition 'Camino Blanco-Camino Antartico', by CORREOS, which can already be visited in Pontevedra. The visitors will find 52 photographs on this historic pilgrimage, which will be exhibited until May 15 in the public hostel of Pontevedra, located in the Rua Otero Pedrayo s / n.
