The 4th International Aymeric Picaud Prize went this time to the Italian researcher Paolo Caucci Von Saucken, who has picked it up at the Parador San Marcos de León this Saturday. Like every year, the award is given by the League of Associations of Journalists of the Camino de Santiago and this time the Association of Journalists of Leon has acted as host.

The Camino de Santiago "is like a cathedral, a linear, continuous and unique work of art that is defended in every way"; This is what Caucci has said about the legacy of the Jacobean Route, which he has been studying since he did it in 1969, after which he has not stopped publishing works and researches, spreading around the world the Jacobean values and the phenomenon of pilgrimage. It is precisely this long trajectory that has been valued by the jury when awarding the prize.

The Italian professor believes that the Camino "is like a work of art" and that the competent authorities have to watch over it, giving priority to the preservation of its historical routes, warning that "you can not asphalt or build on" the Route Jacobea. Caucci also thanked journalists for the recognition, which he described as "authentic", and urged them to be "courageous" in transmitting the modern history of "the last 50 years of Camino", since According to the researcher, "much has been written and researched about the past of the Camino, especially of the Middle Ages."
