CORREOS helps the pilgrims of Antarctica on their arrival in Santiago

Which has probably been the longest road never made to Santiago de Compostela, with no less than 14,000 kilometers from Antarctica, has had in its later stages the unexpected help of CORREOS.

More than 70 "pingüirinos" who left the Spanish Antarctic Base Gabriel de Castilla, located in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands, have had the collaboration of CORREOS to transport their luggage and backpacks in the last kilometers of this long journey that has lasted months. This is a service that the postal company already offers to all the pilgrims of the Jacobean routes.

The group was composed of military endowment of Oceanographic Research Ship Hesperides, the staff of the Antarctic Campaign Army, scientists, members of the National Geographic Institute and members of the Spanish Federation of Friends of the Camino de Santiago.

Among other services, CORREOS offers pilgrims the possibility of carrying backpacks and suitcases from stage to stage with Paq Backpack, sending bikes to the place where the road begins or back home, a specific luggage room in Santiago de Compostela to leave luggage and go to the Cathedral, sending bags to any post office in the road, etc.
