The shrine of Santiago de Belate completes its reconstruction

The chapel was in ruins, but has been rebuilt thanks to the solidarity work of the Friends of the Camino de Santiago de Urdax-Baztan

Good news for all the pilgrims who made the pilgrimage route of Urdax to Baztan, as one of the historic refuges has recently completed its reconstruction, the shrine of Santiago de Belate.The chapel was in ruins, but thanks to the solidarity work of the Friends of the Camino de Santiago de Urdax-Baztan, and people of Almandoz, this known refuge for pilgrims from the area will be active and willing to help walkers towards Pamplona.

Six years have been slow to conclude the work, because of the chapel were only some stones scattered on the ground.Cesáreo Soulé, Arizkun, specializing in stone carvings artist, made an image of St. James who will chair the chapel. This is not the first work of restoration and protection of heritage developed by the Friends of the Camino de Santiago de Urdax-Baztan in the area. Examples are the source of the Cure of Amaiur or the shrine of Santiago de Urrasun.In addition, promotional perform important tasks, although not always with official or institutional support.
