The town of Grado, in Asturias, will host the first International Meeting on the Patrimony of the Camino de Santiago in December 10 and 11, organized by the International Fraternity Association of the Camino de Santiago, with the collaboration of the City Council of Grado, which will open its House of Culture for such a special occasion. The objective of this first meeting is to reflect and to reveal to authorities and society one of the main problems that the Jacobean Route: the aggression to the patrimony of the Camino.

Phenomena such as the vandalism or massification suffered by the Camino de Santiago in recent years directly affect the preservation of the tangible and intangible heritage of the route, but also sometimes the actions of the administrations themselves. This heritage includes its original paths, monuments, bridges and steps, but also to what we can not touch, such as tradition, legends or music that have been born around the Way for centuries and centuries.

All these problems and how to tackle them will be the subject of debate during these two days of international meeting, in which will be used to present a new mobile app so that pilgrims can denounce in real time the possible attacks on the Camino de Santiago that they witness. The meeting will include speakers such as the historian of the University of Santiago Miguel Angel Cajigal, professor of the University of Lugo Ricardo Gomez Polinla or the professor of the University of Oviedo, Maria Josefa Sanz. In addition, there will be European experts on the subject, as well as a member of the International Council of Monuments and Sites of UNESCO, an organization in charge of declaring World Heritage in 2015 the Primitive Way, which is precisely for Grado.
