The Xunta de Galicia will invest 1.7 million euros in the works to improve the signaling of the Portuguese Way in its journey through the autonomous community, which takes place between the towns of Tui and Santiago. The project, included in the Master Plan of the Camino de Santiago for the next Xacobeo 2021, was presented this week by the Director of Tourism of Galicia, Nava Castro and the territorial delegates of A Coruña and Vigo to those responsible for the town halls of Jacobean localities of the Portuguese Way. In total, the investment of this master plan to value both the Portuguese Way and the Portuguese Way along the Coast will amount to 2.5 million euros.

The Portuguese Way crosses 17 municipalities in the provinces of Pontevedra and A Coruña to Santiago de Compostela and is the route that has grown the most in popularity in recent years in the number of pilgrims. After the French Way, the Portuguese has established itself as the second route most chosen by the pilgrims, ahead of the Camino del Norte, which crosses the entire Cantabrian coast. During 2017, 59,235 pilgrims traveled the Portuguese Way to the Cathedral of Santiago, about 20% of the total of all the Jacobean routes.
