Portomarín performs a museum in the fort of Castromaior, located in the Camino de Santiago

The goal is to finish the work this year and Castromaior convert into a tourist and cultural resource for the area

Castrate of Castromaior, located in Portomarín, will soon have an ethnographic museum and interpretive center. This is a proposal by the council itself, because of the historical interest of this Celtic fortified settlement, as well as cultural and tourist interest thereof, as Castromaior is located on the Camino de Santiago, thanks to recent changes made to the French Way. Previously the route passed about 200 meters from castro, resulting invisible to the pilgrims.

The City Council allocated 200,000 euros a game for this project, which aims to complete the work this year and convert Castromaior a tourist resource for the area. Castromaior also is of significant historical interest to those skilled in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula. The first excavations show that these inhabitants of the Roman times and knew agriculture, and even conducting channels to evacuate water.The first records date from 1840. In castro 1992 is included in the General Inventory of Archaeological Sites of Galicia, and in 2006 began work surface prospecting and archaeological surveys.
