The cities of A Coruña and Santiago de Compostela make a formal request to the Archbishop to make it possible
If, as pilgrims, you have ever planned to travel the English Way from the town of Ferrol or from A Coruña, you may know that you will not be able to get the compostela on your arrival at the cathedral of Santiago. The reason is that to get the accreditation, which is delivered in the temple, it is necessary to have traveled at least 100 kilometers on foot (for example from Tui or from Sarria) or double, 200, by bicycle, which leaves out to the pilgrims of the English Way.
Although not comparable to the number of pilgrims that each year moves the French Way, the North Way or the Portuguese, the English Way is experiencing a greening in recent years and the interest to travel is increasing. This, added to the efforts of revitalization that are being made from the authorities, has led the mayors of A Coruña, Martiño Noriega, and Santiago de Compostela, Xulio Ferreiro, to visit the cathedral to make a formal request.
Both authorities have personally transferred to the dean of the cathedral, Segundo Pérez, a petition accompanied by a report from the area of Tourism of the Council of A Coruña on which are based the motives that shape this demand. The dean has show to be in favor, but has clarified that the final decision corresponds to the Cabildo of Santiago de Compostela, a college of priests who exercises the priestly ministry in the cathedral.
