This is the Ruta Traslatio: Way of St. James by Sea

This Jacobean route commemorates the same stretch through which the disciples of the Apostle Santiago had to sail until they stepped on Galician soil.

What is the Ruta Traslatio?

The Ruta Traslatio is a Jacobean route that commemorates the arrival of the body of the Apostle Saint James in Galicia. Unlike other routes that go through different points of the Spanish geography, this route is guided by the same places so that the disciples of the Apostle Santiago carried the body of his master. This route is centered in the river areas before the disciples landed i the town of Padrón, from where they continued their journey to where the Cathedral of Santiago is now located.

Although this Jacobean route is more recent than the main Jacobean routes, it is one of the most outstanding as it recreates the path taken by the disciples Theodore and Athanasius. This is the path that both disciples had to walk thousands of years ago, and with it the Way of Saint James was born.

Bearing in mind that the Ruta Traslatio is a route that commemorates this great historical event, by walking it you can get to know all the places that the Apostle Santiago crossed at the hands of his disciples moments before he set foot in Galicia. In this way pilgrims can discover monuments directly related to the origin of the Way of Saint James, among which the Pedrón located in the Church of Santiago de Padrón stands out.

Ruta Traslatio: The different routes of the Way of Saint James by the Sea

Although the Ruta Traslatio recreates the same route that Teodoro and Atanasio had to go through until they reached Iria Flavia, it has different routes to get there.

Ruta Traslatio from Sanxenxo: If we start from the south, we can go from the town of Sanxenxo, a small and very touristy town. From this point we can appreciate the islands of Ons and the island of Sálvora just before entering the estuary of Arousa.

Route Traslatio from Meaño or Vilagarcía de Arousa: Located much more to the south of the island of Arousa, is the localities of Meaño and Vilagarcía de Arousa, points from

which we can also start the Ruta Traslatio. Starting from these places, we can know the towns located in the southeast zone of the Ria de Arousa.

Ruta Traslatio from Ribeira or Pobra do Caramiñal: From the western part of the Ría de Arousa the route would start in Ribeira from which we can enjoy the towns near this area. An example of this is A Pobra de Caramiñal of great historical and cultural value.

Ruta Traslatio from Boiro or Rianxo: Another alternative to travel the Ruta Traslatio is to start from Boiro or Rianxo, towns located in the northern part of the Ria de Arousa. Both towns are closer to the river Ulla but they also offer a unique experience.
