Here are some of the most useful expressions to get along without problems on the Camino de Santiago, in its hostels, bars, restaurants and to be able to communicate with its people, regardless of where they come from.
According to official data from the Pilgrim's Office, in 2017 168,557 non-Spanish pilgrims traveled the Camino de Santiago and completed it, 55.99% of the total. Every year there are more pilgrims from around the world who travel to Spain or Portugal, many of them English speakers, German speakers, Italian speakers, French speakers, etc., so sometimes communication can be somewhat complex.
To help make the pilgrimage of everyone to Santiago easier we have compiled a list of useful phrases and words for the Camino with their respective translations into English, Italian and German. In this list you will find expressions to deal with in current situations, such as in hostels, walking with other pilgrims or asking for directions, monuments or points of interest. We have chosen these four languages to cover a large part of the critical mass of foreign pilgrims who arrive at the Camino de Santiago, also taking into account the universal vocation of the English language.
