Winter Way: its towns could join a partnership to get stronger

Next week there will be a meeting between the mayors of the towns through which the route to Santiago passes

The next Friday, February 17, will take place in the town of Priaranza del Bierzo, in the province of Leon, a new meeting to which are summoned mayors of the municipalities where the Winter Way runs. The intention of the mayors is to set up an organization to represent them in order to gather more force in requesting subsidies to the higher administrations and to continue promoting the winter route, as assured the Mayor of Priaranza, José Manuel Blanco. In addition, other topics will be discussed at the meeting, such as the celebration of an exhibition of painting and sculpture in the different locations through which the route passes or a documentary on the Winter Way.

The Winter Way received last April 2016 its expected recognition as an official route of the Camino de Santiago by the Galician Parliament. The route crosses the Bierzo and the four Galician provinces tracing an alternative route to the French Way, without crossing the overpass of O Cebreiro, snowed in winter and of special hardness for the pilgrims traditionally.
