Last November the Government of the Principality of Asturias presented a plan of 80 measures and 10 concrete action points to revitalize the Camino de Santiago as it passes through the autonomous community from all points of view. These measures were included in a document called the White Book of the Camino de Santiago, the first of its kind presented by an autonomous government, and this week we have learned that 38 of them will be applied this year, thanks to an investment of 800,000 euros.

As approved by the Governing Council almost half of the measures set out in the document will be applied this year, among which is to apply greater signage on the Jacobean routes, create a website to promote the Camino in the Principality, undertake Works to adapt the sections to the current needs and a brand of shelters. The investment will be carried out on the three routes (primitive road, road north or coastal and road of the Savior) that pass through Asturias and that travel from north to south and east to west to achieve "a development instrument Economic and a major cultural axis of the community, "said Genaro Alonso, head of Education and Culture.

The different Jacobean routes cross up to 36 Asturian councils, with 518 kilometers of road recognized as Good of Cultural Interest. Asturias joins with these special measures to other autonomous communities like Galicia in the investment focused on improving the Camino de Santiago ahead of the next Xacobeo. The predictions of pilgrims for 2021 are very optimistic; To the great moment of popularity of the Way of Santiago these years will be united the great power of convocation that the Holy Year always obtains.
