Traditionally when we think about staying while enjoying the Camino de Santiago, we come to mind instantly shelters, but the truth is that in the Jacobean Route there is a much wider choice, including hostels, hotels, inns, cottages or camping sites, some accommodation with a long history behind. Thus, any pilgrim can find accommodation that fits your needs.
Accommodations will find in the Camino can provide us certain advantages, or accommodations for formula hostels, plus the ability to extend our stay as we deem appropriate, without restrictions as to stay one night only. We must take into account in our accommodation trip as hostels, guesthouses or hotels, as we always can serve as an alternative in case of saturation in shelters, especially in summer, when the occupation of pilgrims is the highest of the year.
On the other hand, not all pilgrims who travel the road are willing to share a room with other travelers, for reasons of rest, privacy, hygiene or just need some extra services. Some prefer to discover the gastronomic side of the Jacobean route, to stop several days in their localities to discover its cultural and leisure offer or live the experience of spending a night in a cottage or an authentic Galician home.
As always, it is essential to plan ahead before starting our trip walking to avoid unpleasant surprises. If you do not want to meet with the common problem of reaching a hostel without availability of places for the night, we can choose other alternatives which itself can book in advance. As we always say, there's a Camino de Santiago for each pilgrim, enjoying services and accommodations that suit us.
