Help improve business in the town center, that is the intention of the municipality of Cacabelos, located in El Bierzo, recently converted two of its streets into pedestrian areas. The council has decided that the streets Santa Maria and Las Angustias they become pedestrian, being great news for pilgrims, since it is on the Camino de Santiago that runs through the province of Leon.Because they are streets that come from a medieval layout, it says the council, are of very limited width, and is currently supporting a high volume of traffic, also coinciding with a large influx of walkers.

And in the streets can be found lot of catering establishments that pilgrims often visit. Traffic will be diverted to the Reguera, Ponferrada and Angel Gonzalez streets, and there will only be three crosses at low speed in Santa Maria and Anguish. The loading and unloading vehicles may move in restricted hours, as service vehicles on the Camino de Santiago, taking into account the pedestrian preference. Occasionally the step will allow emergency vehicles.
