Shikoku Way, an opportunity to know the pilgrimages in Asia

If you are going to visit Santiago de Compostela this weekend, you must know that until the same Sunday 24 you can visit the exhibition 'O Camiño de Shikoku' in the Museum of Pilgrimages of Santiago in the Plaza de las Platerías. The exhibition includes documents, historical books and guides from the 17th and 18th centuries related to the Shikoku Path, or Shikoku-Henro Path, as well as sculptures, paintings on paper, photographs and videos. It is one of the most important pilgrimage routes in Asia, sharing the leading role in Japan with the Kumano Kodo route, which we have already talked about in ViveCamino previously, both roads twinned with the Camino de Santiago.

The Shikoku Way stretches for 1,400 kilometers and through 88 temples in Tokusima, Kochi, Ehime and Kagawa prefectures of Shikoku Island. The route is linked to the figure of the monk Kobo-Daishi, who imported Buddhism from China to Japan and was originally conceived as a spiritual training. The Shikoku Way maintains close ties with the Way of Santiago, with which it has shared in the past several initiatives of collaboration; among its main aspirations is its recognition as Patrimony of Humanity.
