Thanks to its landscapes, its cuisine and its people, Asturias is undoubtedly one of the places that raises more passions among pilgrims. On the Camino de Santiago we can find two main routes that pass through this Autonomous Community, these are the Camino del Norte and the Camino Primitivo, but sometimes it is convenient to deviate a little from these routes to visit places that will take your breath away, like the Lagos de Covadonga.
The Covadonga Lakes are in the heart of the Picos de Europa National Park and are two lakes of glacial origin separated by a short walk, called Enol and Ercina. They are surrounded by some of the highest mountains in the park, making it an image difficult to forget. It is considered the best place in Europe to enjoy the beauty of the mountains in their most natural state.
The best place to see both lakes is near Lake Ercina, the first of the two lakes you will come across, this is the Entrelagos Viewpoint, which is built on a small hill.
The lakes are located just over 14 km from Covadonga and 21 km from Cangas de Onís, and can be reached on foot, by private vehicle, or by taxi and specialised buses. Prices for adults range from 9 to 11 euros, while children's prices range from 3.5 to 5 euros.
For access by private vehicle, please note that traffic will be limited during the high season, from 31 May to 17 October, and on public holidays, as well as all weekends in April and May.
