There is no single route to Santiago de Compostela. The discovery of the remains of the apostle unleashed a cultural and social phenomenon that spread throughout Europe, and thanks to this we find numerous options when it comes to walking the Way of St. James. Although today some routes are busier than others, it doesn't really matter the starting point, each and every one of the routes has a unique charm.

Asturias is one of the few autonomous communities of the Iberian Peninsula that is fortunate enough to boast that in its path we find several routes to Santiago de Compostela. The Way of St. James from Asturias has more and more followers every day, not only thanks to its attractive landscape, but also because it gives us the opportunity to get to know charming locations such as Colunga.

Colunga is a humble town in the Principality of Asturias. Looking out over the Cantabrian Sea, the first traces of the town can be traced back to prehistoric times, as some evidence of the presence of Palaeolithic man has been discovered. The region has been witness to all kinds of historical events, so as well as breathing a special magic, you will discover beautiful spots such as the Mirador de San Roque viewpoint. 

The San Roque viewpoint in Colunga, Asturias, is one of the most iconic destinations on the Cantabrian coast. From the top you can see the Picos de Europa, the town of Lastres and its vast beach, as well as the beach of La Griega. Due to the spectacular combination of maritime and mountain scenery, this is an almost obligatory stop for unforgettable views.
