Thanks to the European project Life +20 Stars, which wants to fight Climate Change
New technologies and, above all, new methods of transportation that use clean or renewable energies, are already beginning to reach the Camino de Santiago. As tourism and natural as is the Camino de Santiago environment interested in maintaining the beauty and nature of the routes, could not be outside of the main sources of clean energy in transports. For example, the arrival of electric vehicles, a transport method which, increasingly, is beginning to gain enough popularity among Spanish drivers.
Therefore, it is good news that recently the first charging point for electric vehicles has been installed in one of the most popular and necessary environments of the Camino and meeting point for travelers, a shelter. This vehicle charging point is installed in the pilgrim hostel of San Nicolas de Flue in Ponferrada. At this point others will follow in the future, thanks to the project launched by the San Valero Group, which falls belongs to the European framework Life +20 Stars.
5 communities have been involved in this project, that in addition, not only will support electric vehicles at points of interest in the Camino de Santiago, it will also be useful for some pilgrims with disabilities who use electric vehicles of different types.
