Santa María de Oia Beach is located in Oia, Pontevedra. In this town there are a lot of hiking trails that you can walk without touching the car. You can visit unique enclaves such as the Silleiro Lighthouse, forts such as A Cabeciña, or different beaches, such as Santa María de Oia beach.

Santa María de Oia is a beach with a rocky bottom landscape open to the sea, where you can surf all year round. This beautiful beach is at the end of the small town of Oia, on the left side of the cove. Next to it is the old 12th century Cistercian monastery of Santa María de Oia.

It should be noted that the waves on this beach are some of the most dangerous in southern Galicia. In fact, you can surf waves of more than five meters. It is complicated since the peak appears suddenly and at the last moment the wave hits the rocky bottom of the beach. As the level of the waves increases, the peak breaks further back and with more water.

Due to its high danger, it is only recommended to surf by expert people with a good level on rock bottom. The best conditions for surfing in Santa María de Oia occur when the swell from the Northwest combines with a wind direction from the Southeast. However, its waves are quite consistent and it can work at any time of the year.
