The Camino de Santiago is a wonderful experience that marks for good many pilgrims, but bad luck or carelessness can turn this experience into something quite different, a real disgust. The biggest influx of public attracts thiefs to the Camino, unfortunately like in any other tourist destination of importance. Therefore, vigilance on the Camino increases during the summer significantly, but it is not always enough.  Bicycle theft on the Camino are very common, however, there are also other kind of thefts.

Thanks to increased surveillance in the Jacobean routes, the National Police has arrested a man of 29 years in Ponferrada last Monday accused of having made six steals to different pilgrims in the Camino de Santiago. This man, of Spanish nationality, was acting near Nicolas de Flue hostel, taking advantage of the distraction of pilgrims to steal inside tents and campers. A special device managed to surprise the thief in the act.

The offender has been made available to the Magistrate's Court Guard of Ponferrada.
