At the end of the trip the pilgrims will receive a facsimile certificate issued by the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela
Which had been announced as a new way to walk the Camino de Santiago, has started this Thursday in Madrid. The National Network of Spanish Railways has given the go-ahead to this initiative, called "Tren del Peregrino", a transport which will allow pilgrims to reach Santiago de Compostela by train, but with sections on foot or by bicycle. It is part of the tourist trains of Renfe planned for this summer.
Also there are four Tren del Peregrino trips planned, starting in Madrid on 4 August, 11 August and 18 August. Passengers can walk the Camino differently, in a comfortable hotel train in a journey that will last 5 days and 4 nights, taking the pilgrims to cities such as Madrid, Astorga, Ponferrada, Monforte, Orense and Santiago.
During the day travelers could walk the corresponding stage on foot or by bicycle, while in the evening they can enjoy guided tours and other activities. At the end of the trip the pilgrims will receive a facsimile certificate issued by the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. The initiative, which is repeated this year, was a success in 2015.
