Puerto de Santurtzi, nueva escala del Camino de Santiago del mar

The Camino de Santiago can not only be crossed by land, the truth is that if we travel by sea to Santiago de Compostela covering the minimum distance of 100 miles, we can also get the compostela, thanks to the new Camino de Santiago del Mar. Santurtzi City Council and the North Marinas Association have sealed an agreement by which the municipality of Biscay will become the port of the new route this spring, making available to the pilgrims the courtesy dock of their port so they can Visit the locality during his pilgrimage and seal his credential. This new attraction, which further links the town with the Camino de Santiago, could accelerate the creation of a hostel for pilgrims.

Santurtzi joins Bermeo as a Biscayan port that becomes part of this route that runs through various towns from the Bay of Biscay to Santiago de Compostela, emulating the voyages by sea undertaken by the English and Irish pilgrims many centuries ago to reach the remains of the Apostle. The initiative to found this route is part of the North Marinas Association, which unites around 20 Basque, Cantabrian, Asturian and Galician maritime towns under the slogan "Navigate the Way", and which will begin to move pilgrims this spring. The association reached an agreement with the Archdiocese of Compostela to regulate this Way of Santiago of the sea so that the pilgrims can seal their accreditation in the different points of the route.
