The Camino in November, almost 15% more pilgrims

The month of November has ended and has left us on the Camino de Santiago this year 7,346 pilgrims, almost 15% more than in the same month of 2016, which makes a total of 255,956 pilgrims who have already passed through the Pilgrim's Office of Santiago, who offers these official data. In 2016, when the absolute annual record of pilgrims was marked since measurements were taken, the total number of 277,854 travelers was reached, a billet that everything points to this year can not be repeated, leaving only the month of December for close the year.

Despite the usual fall of pilgrims between October and November, the fall has been much less pronounced in 2017, being also the best month of November of the last seven years, only with November 2010 marking better records (remember that was when the last Holy Year was celebrated).

63% of the pilgrims (4,627) who arrived in Santiago this November are foreigners, surpassing the nationals, who have targeted 37% of the total (2,719), a fact that confirms the popularity of the Camino de Santiago out of Spain also outside the high season months. In the warmer months, Spaniards are the ones that outnumber foreigners, although increasingly by a smaller margin.

Another very interesting information extracted from the Pilgrim's Office in Santiago de Compostela reveals that the most numerous national pilgrims this month were Andalusians (18%), followed by Madrid (15%), Galicians (14%) and Catalans ( 12%). As for foreigners, Germans (13%) were the majority, followed by Italians (11%), Koreans (9%) and Americans (9%). The vast majority of pilgrims who have arrived at the Cathedral of Santiago have ages between 30 and 60 years (62% of the total).
