With Paq Peregrino de Correos you can send a suitcase to Santiago or to your place of destination and pick it up when you arrive
You must go to the Camino de Santiago with the essentials. This is one of the most repeated tips for pilgrims for those who want to live the authentic essence of the Camino. Comfortable shoes, a pair of changes and a light backpack become your companions of Ruta for a few days. However, there are many pilgrims who would like to have more luggage to reach the goal, either to have clean clothes or some extra equipment after the long walk or to enjoy a few days of vacation. This is already possible with the Paq Peregrino de Correos, a service with which the postal company aims to solve some needs that arise to the walker when it comes to organizing his Camino.
From any of the more than 2,000 offices that Correos has in Spain, the pilgrim will be able to send a suitcase or a package to Santiago de Compostela or to the place where his Camino ends. There it will be waiting for you until you pick it up once you reach the finish line. Because to avoid worries, Correos stores the luggage at the destination office for 15 days, a storage period that can be extended up to a maximum of 75 days according to the needs of the pilgrim. Another advantage of Paq Peregrino is its price: for less than € 20 it is possible to send a suitcase of up to 15 kilos and for less than € 30 packages or luggage of up to 25 kilos.
For those pilgrims who come from other countries, in Madrid they can make the shipment directly from the post office of Terminal 1 of the Barajas airport or from the office of the Chamartín train station. Both are open from Monday to Friday from 08:30 to 14:30 and on Saturdays from 9:30 to 13:00. And in many Spanish cities the post offices are open in the afternoon, some even until 22:00, to give greater facilities to the pilgrim.
For those who want to start their Camino in Saint Jean Pied de Port or Roncesvalles, Correos has an office in Burguete from which to send packages or suitcases. Its schedule until October 31 is Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The Paq Peregrino also serves to solve some problems that arise during the Route. Many times, when we have already begun to walk, we realize that we have spent filling the backpack. That we carry unnecessary things or that we will not use until we reach Santiago. Or even that we have accumulated purchases or souvenir items that make the Camino heavier. The Paq Peregrino can help us to alleviate this burden, sending what is left over or what you do not need back to your locality or to any post office in the Camino to pick it up when you arrive.
Logistics problems with luggage are also frequent at the time of returning home. Therefore, when finishing the Camino it is also possible to send your backpack or suitcase back with the Paq Peregrino de Correos. This allows us to travel without carrying it and can save us the costs of billing of an airline. In Santiago de Compostela you will find an office just 2 minutes walk from the Cathedral of Santiago, located at Rúa do Franco, 4- from which you can make any shipment. Correos also has a left-luggage service in which to leave the backpack to enter the Cathedral or to visit the lighter city.
