
Grañon, an important location in time of the Reconquista due to its position on the border between the ancient kingdoms of Castile and Pamplona, is now the last place on the French route in Rioja.
In the IX century, on a hill, the Mirabel Castle was built and, this medieval town was established, situated in the shelter of the fortress, protected by its surrounding wall. Centuries ago the enclave was mentioned, some intensity in the chronicles of the Way and even came to have two hospitals for pilgrims, they no longer exist.
If you are traveling on the Camino de Santiago or are planning to do so soon, you should know that the distance separating Grañón from Santiago de Compostela is 559 kilometers.
