From historic marquisate to 21st century community center

The Pazo de Mos is a historic building located in Mos, an area crossed by an old Roman road that linked Bracara Augusta with Tui and Santiago. Originally the structure was built in the 17th century, more specifically between 1710 and 1720, near the Church of Santa Baia de Mos. The manor was conceived to house the family of the Marquises of Mos, especially highlighting its 'L'-shaped design and construction in two phases: first the east wing and then the north.

However, over the years, the building suffered significant damage due to a fire and the French invasion, leaving it almost completely destroyed. We move forward several centuries in time, to the 1970s. The pazo became a slaughterhouse owned by Frigoríficos do Louro, later passing to the Coren Group in the 80s. Eventually, Coren gave the building to the neighbors. Within its Renaissance architecture, the building stands out for its three floors, carved granite balconies and two Herrerian-style chimneys. You cannot miss the coat of arms of the House of Mos, originating in the 19th century, and giving rise to the current municipal emblem.

The Pazo de Mos belonged to the House of Soutomaior, the marquisate of Mos being granted in 1586 to Gabriel de Quirós and the first Marquis of Mos. Over the years, the title of marquisate has remained in the family, reaching down to Mariano Peréz and Peréz de Castro in current times.

After a long period of abandonment and ruin, the Mos manor was rebuilt in the first decade of the 21st century. It is currently used for various events aimed at the neighborhood and municipal community, also serving as a significant community space.
