Porto is a coastal city of 214,349 inhabitants, belonging to Portugal. Pilgrims will arrive in Porto walking along the Portuguese Way.
Porto is the second most populous city in Portugal, behind Lisbon. It is located in the north of the country and is the place where the mouth of the Duero River takes place in the Atlantic Ocean. It has an area of 41.42 square kilometers that we find its historic center, declared a World Heritage Site in 1996, and its metropolitan area. Formerly only a small Celtic village was found in the same place which the Romans called "Portus Cale", name from which the place name Portugal originated.
