Asturias is a destination that defines itself by its authenticity. We find a unique gastronomy as few in Spain, a very close citizenship, a landscape that perfectly blends mountain and Cantabrian coast and, of course, a history of great importance in the Camino de Santiago. The different pilgrimage routes that cross the autonomous community allow pilgrims to get to know all the most outstanding points of the Asturian coast.

Along the Way of St. James, the pilgrimage takes us to some of the most magical places in the northwestern part of the Iberian Peninsula. Whether you decide to walk the Northern Way or the French Way, the Monastery of San Salvador located in the town of Cornellana in the council of Salas stands out from other stops on the pilgrimage route because it has been listed as a National Monument since 1931.

The monastery of San Salvador: A Romanesque style building dating from the 11th century.

Romanesque style art shines throughout the Camino de Santiago. It defines itself as a current that managed to create a unique language applicable to all later forms of expression, hence the monastery of San Salvador de Cornellana is part of the country's enormous historical and cultural heritage. The building dates back to the beginning of the 11th century and contains numerous remains of prehistoric populations, as well as castreños.

The monastery of San Salvador is located very close to the Camino de la Mesa, also known as Camín Real de la Mesa. This is probably one of the oldest alternative paths of the Camino de Santiago, as it has been proven that it has existed since ancient times and that it was built by the Romans in one of the sections of the Vía de la Plata.
