In Coimbra there are several places that are almost a must-see. Cataloged as emblematic within the town, the pilgrim cannot miss points such as the University of Coimbra, and one of the most prominent without a doubt thanks to its popularity.

Nor can we forget theJoanina Libraryor the Sao Miguelo Chapel  the Old Royal Palace. For those looking for impressive views, the University Tower will satisfy your needs. more than your expectations. If you want to discover the architecture of Coimbra, the Old Cathedral or also known as Sé Velha, is a clear example of the Romanesque style; while I know Nova stands out for its baroque style.

There are many, many places that you can visit and delight in as you pass through Coimbra. The Monastery of Santa Cruz or the Botanical Garden are other examples of places that cannot be missed on your visit given their beauty and historical value. Same case for any of the old streets that permeate the Baixa de Coimbra, and that serve to understand the traditions and local life of the town.

One of the most important is the University of Coimbra. Founded in 1920, we are talking about one of the oldest universities in the world. In it we can find the Joanina Library, adding a very large collection of ancient manuscripts. Also noteworthy is theUniversity Tower, from where you can admire panoramic views of Coimbra.

As we have already highlighted previously, architecture plays a very important role in Coimbra. We can see this in Sé Velha (Old Cathedral), a clear outstanding example of Romanesque architecture in Portugal, and which offers a medieval perspective of the town like few others. On the other hand,I know Nova (New Cathedral), initially built as the church of the Jesuit College and whose façade stands out for its baroque style.

Other places that you can add to your visit is the Monastery of Santa Cruz, founded in 1131 and being one of the burial places of the first kings of Portugal. We cannot help but recommend the Botanical Garden, one of the oldest in Europe, as well as the Botanical Gardens. such as Baixa de Coimbra, the authentic commercial heart of the city and perfect for immersing ourselves in the atmosphere of the place.
