The Stages of Frómista

Located 32 kilometres from Palencia and 19 kilometres from Carrion de los Condes, those pilgrims who want to begin their journey to Santiago in Frómista, the nearest and fastest option is to first reach Palencia and from there travel to Frómista by bus or train.

For those who need to make a stop at the town and return to their place of origin should do the reverse, travel by bus or train to Palencia and from there back to their destination. The trains that link both places throughout the week depart from Palencia at 10.26, at 15.27 and at 18.56 hours, the journey takes less than 25 minutes.

On Fridays there is another at 20.24 hours. In the opposite case there are departures from Frómista, on regional trains at 08.31, 17.05 and 19.43 hours. Frómista, also has rail connections to Valladolid and Santander, both locations have an airport. There are several daily connections, check here for the timetable.  

Another option is to arrive or leave Frómista by bus. The main links are from Palencia, Burgos (except at the weekend) and Leon (the connection on Thursdays is via Carrión de los Condes). From Palencia to Frómista daily buses depart at 13.00 and 19.00 hours (it takes half an hour to arrive). Schedule changes should be discussed with the company Linecar (98,323,033). From Frómista to Palencia departures are at 09.00 and 16.20. From Burgos there are daily connections except for at the weekends. From Burgos to Frómista departure time is at 17.30 and from Formista to Burgos at 07.30 hours.

From Frómista to Carrion de los Condes a bus leaves at 10.00 while the reverse journey takes place at 13.30. From Carrion it is possible to link with another line that continues to Leon.

Correos offers a delivery backpacks service so you can walk without loads and enjoy the routes and stages. You can also purchase a packaging and shipment of bicycles service. The price is 42,03 euros (VAT included, shipping to mainland Spain). This is available in all offices.

In Frómista there is only one licensed taxi. The driver is called Elisa and the number is: 979 810 079. The taxi rank is on the Calle Arquitecto Aníbal, 8.   For the transfer of luggage Jacotrans is one of the main options, the company that covers the entire pilgrimage route. For the stretch between Burgos and Leon the contact is Luis Angel (650 451 540). Rates are at from 7 euros. The normal procedure for those sleeping in public shelters, and thus unable to reserve a place at their next accommodation until their time of arrival-is to allocate a bar or another destination point where they can collect their luggage.

For those staying in private hostels or hotels, their backpack will be waiting for them at their next accommodation. In both cases the walkers should call in advance because the service vehicles with backpacks usually start delivering before 0900 hours. By noon, they are already at their destination. Another company that also covers the entire route is Camino Facil.

The procedure is identical to that of Jacotrans. Pilgrims should call or email the day before to have everything planned. Backpacks are delivered to their destination by lunchtime. The rates are from 7 euros although, prices may vary depending on the number of people and the number of stages covered (for cyclists), the price may be higher. Any cyclists with serious bike problems should continue until the next stop, Carrión de los Condes (19 kilometres) to resolve it. In Frómista only minor repairs, such as punctures can be fixed in the souvenir shop El Peregrino, located in the Plaza de San Martin, 10.
