The event will take place from 17:00 and will be presided by the archbishop of Santiago, Julian Barrio, who had opened the Holy Door in December 2015 to celebrate the Jubilee of Mercy. Once closed, the Holy Door not reopen until December 31, 2020, to celebrate the Xacobeo 2021, so that pilgrims can take advantage of these last days to enter the cathedral by the also known as Door of Forgiveness .

This symbolic door is opened only in jubilee years, although sometimes called "Jubilees Extraordinary" apply, as occurred in this 2016, decreed as the Holy Year of Mercy by Pope Francisco. Indeed, the chief executive of the Catholic Church also close the Holy Door at St. Peter basílida in the Vatican, though it will a week later, coinciding with the feast of Christ the King.
