Lisbon, like other cities in Portugal, has a rich gastronomic offer that enchants everyone who tries it. The restaurants in this city have a wide menu of typical recipes from Portugal and Lisbon, among which we find cod pataniscas, peixinhos da horta and grilled sardines, among others. Although we can find good restaurants in any area of the city, near the Rossio square there are some of the best.
The city of Lisbon also has a wide variety of desserts, among which the Belém cakes stand out. The pastéis de Belém, which is what you would say in Portuguese, are shaped like tartlets and are made with a puff pastry base and filled with a sweet paste. Its recipe is secret since its origin in the 19th century, and although there are factories that make them, it has nothing to do with those sold in the pastry shops in the Belém neighborhood.
