The Camino de Santiago, although it starts from many points of the Spanish geography and even from France, has as its last stop the city of Santiago, which means that there are different routes throughout the length and breadth of the Iberian Peninsula. In the same way, once we are in Galicia we have different ways to get to the capital, which allows us to know both the interior and the Galician coast, where we can find places as impressive as the Ría de Muros and Noia.

A less known place but with a great charm

The Ría de Muros and Noia, also known as Ría da Estrela, is formed by the municipalities of Lousame, Muros, Noia, Porto do Son and Outes, and is part of the Rías Baixas, although it is in the province of A Coruña.

The villages that make up this area have a long tradition linked to the sea, specifically to the world of canning. In addition, and although in recent decades it has been in decline, another of the activities that provided the Ría de Muros and Noia with the most work was ship carpentry. Nowadays, the main economic engines are fishing and shellfishing, especially cockle fishing, making gastronomy one of the strong points of this place.

Another of the most striking elements of the Ría de Muros and Noia is its incredible landscape. Due to its location, the municipalities have dozens of beaches, as well as incredible viewpoints from which you can see the whole estuary, such as the Monte Enxa viewpoint. All this without forgetting that these are fishing villages, so their harbours full of boats are also places worth visiting.

In recent years, the Ría de Muros and Noia Way has gained more prominence, since in addition to all the above mentioned, these municipalities have a great cultural heritage, being able to highlight the following places.

  • In Lousame: Path of the Paper Mills, Brandia Mills, San Fins Mines and Fervenzas de Toxosoutos.
  • In Muros: Molino do Pozo de Cachón, Historic Centre, Collegiate Church of San Pedro and Petroglyph Laxe das Rodas.
  • In Noia: Ponte da Traba and Ponte Nafonso, Church of San Martiño, Old Town and Church of Santa María a Nova.
  • In Porto do Son: Castro de Baroña, Monte Enxa, Fervenza de Ribasieira and Castro and Mirador de Monte Taúme.
  • In Outes: San Xoan de Sabardes Church, Albeida Mills, Monte Tremuzo Viewpoint and San Xoán de Roo Church.

In addition, a plan has recently been initiated to improve the information of the cultural and tourist resources that are on the route of the Camino de Santiago da Ría de Muros Noia, thus encouraging a greater number of pilgrims to choose this route.
