An architectural and botanical jewel in Pontevedra

The Pazo de Lourizán is located in the parish of Lourizán in Pontevedra, being one of the architectural and botanical jewels that has witnessed Galician history through over the years. The manor has its origins in the 15th century, although the building we know today was built at the end of the 19th century by the architect Alejandro Rodríguez Sesmeros.

The building stands out for its eclectic style, combining neo-Gothic, neo-Renaissance and modernist elements. During its history, the manor has been the residence of illustrious figures such as the politician and economist Eugenio Montero Ríos. Around the manor extends a splendid botanical garden that covers about 20 hectares, being especially known for its collection of camellias and one of the most important in Europe. regarding this species. 

The garden is also home to a variety of tree species, some of them centuries old, which makes it a space of great botanical and landscape interest. Currently, the Pazo de Lourizán is the headquarters of the Agrobiological Research Center of Galicia, dependent on the Xunta de Galicia. This means that, in addition to its historical and artistic value, the pazo is a reference point in agricultural and forestry research.

Although it is a research center, parts of the manor are open to the public, especially its gardens, which can be visited and where you can admire the impressive collections of plants and trees. Guided tours and workshops are often organized, allowing visitors to learn more about the history of the pazo and the botanical importance of its gardens.
