The Plaza de la Leña in Pontevedra is considered one of the most picturesque and visited areas of the city. It is not for less if we take into account that it is located in the historic center of the city and in which taverns, bars and restaurants are found at every step we take in the area.
Speaking of its origins, the Plaza de la Leña owes its name as many of you will already be imagining for the sale of firewood; essential product centuries ago for tasks as mundane as cooking. Other types of products were also for sale, such as meats, etc.
In the Plaza de la Leña we can find several of the most outstanding buildings in Pontevedra, with special mention to the buildings that make up the Provincial Museum. These buildings, linked by the García Flórez bridge, are living proof of the importance that urban pazos gained in the 18th century.
The Plaza de la Leña is a meeting place and passage for the residents of the city. An area that is worth visiting thanks to its many bars and restaurants where you can enjoy the local gastronomy. An essential visit for those who wish to discover the cultural and architectural wealth of the city.
