The exit from Melide consists of a descent on a narrow earthy path that leads to the national road. At this point walkers should turn right towards Santa María of Melide.
The terrain leads upwards to A Peroxa, which forms part of the parish of Boente. A few meters further ahead, a little distance from the Jacobean route is the private albergue Os Albergues. Castañeda is reached and on entering (7.4 kilometres to Arzúa) walkers will find the private albergue Santiago situated on the right hand side, it also functions as a café/bar and has a splendid terrace.
From here walkers begin a descent towards Ribadiso (3.4 kilometres to Arzúa), another magical enclave on the journey and its albergue, the perfect place to spend the night.
After passing a centre with nothing more than houses, the Jacobean route now runs parallel to the national road. On the other side of the road there is a service station where those pilgrims arriving low on energy can refuel before continuing to Arzúa, situated less than a kilometre away.
