Also known as Praça Dom Pedro IV, it is one of the most emblematic places in Lisbon, boasting that it is the most famous square in the capital. Rossio Square is located in the Baixa area. We are talking about one of the areas of greatest historical and cultural importance in all of Lisbon, being a vibrant and lively meeting point in the Portuguese capital.
Since its construction back in the 13th century, Rossio Square has become a stage for all kinds of events, some of them as part of Lisbon's black history, trials, but also popular festivals, parades among many others. But what do we find in the square? A wide repertoire of buildings predominate in the area, with a clear predominance of noble constructions, also making room for some of the most essential monuments of the city.
Particularly noteworthy is the statue of Dom Pedro IV, located in the very center of the square, presiding over the place and adding an element of rich Portuguese history to the area. On the other hand, and no less important, the square is very popular thanks to its peculiar undulating pavement. And it is designed in white and black stone, creating a spectacular and very characteristic visual effect, imitating other spaces in Portugal.
Rossio Square holds a very important place in the hearts of Lisbon residents, but also for anyone who visits the city. It has witnessed great events over the centuries, its location on the other hand plays a very important role since it connects perfectly with the rest of the key historical areas of the city. In short, the square is a mandatory stop for anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the life and history of the Portuguese capital.
