While doing the Portuguese Way, we start from Tui until we finish the first stage in Mos. However, there is a halfway point that should not go unnoticed. When we pass O Porriño, we will pass for a while along the Louro river promenade, which deserves our attention.
This first stage of the Portuguese Way is carried out accompanied by the Louro River for most of the 18 kilometers. The walk along the Louro de Porriño river does not belong to the path in its entirety, but they do cross and coincide in part of their route, such as when we passed by the pilgrims' hostel. Although the layout of the stage and the walk are different, there is no danger of getting lost in the stage because the Way is well signposted.
Until recently, this section of the river and its surroundings were in poor condition, with many ecological and environmental damages because it passes through several industrial zones and estates. Now, however, it is in the process of recovery, and the area of Gándaras de Budiño stands out in particular. This space has a high environmental value, due to the presence of a large population of birds and other local fauna and flora.
The Louro river walk through O Porriño is a well-conditioned path and is easy to follow. In addition, we find several recreational and rest areas as we go through it. If we take the circular route around the river, we will walk for almost 6 kilometers surrounded by vegetation and the sound of the river.
