Sarria is one of the favorite starting points for all those pilgrims who decide to opt for the French Way. And being this town the beginning of the five stages that make up the route, we are talking about one of the most recommended options by extension and of course also by the different landscapes and environments that await us ahead until we reach Santiago de Compostela.
One of the most outstanding aspects of Sarria is the large number of guesthouses and hotels available. Undoubtedly a plus point for pilgrims who want to be well rested in order to continue the route the next day. Remember that you can take a detailed look at our guide to hostels on the Camino de Santiago when planning each route and stage.
With a total of 114 kilometers to Santiago de Compostela, we should not miss the opportunity to visit some of the most outstanding points and places of the town. Among them we recommend the Church of Santa Mariña de Sarria, the Fortress of Sarria and the Church of San Salvador; the latter is a Romanesque building and a clear example of Sarria's medieval past.
The council of Sarria, with its different parishes, has the largest number of albergues on the Galician itinerary of the Camino. In fact, in only 18 kilometres pilgrims will find more than 20 albergues.
In the urban centre itself there are thirteen, one public and the rest private. The majority of accommodation establishments are well situated, offer a pilgrim menu and, many offer other services that may appeal to hikers, such as, transport to a physiotherapist so they can have a massage.
Along side the ample range of albergues. Sarria also has a good number of guesthouses, hotels, and, in the surrounding area, there are four rural houses. See all albergues See the rest of accommodation.

Sarria is a town where you can breathe Jacobean flavor and tradition in every corner. In it we can find different points of interest that we should not overlook to get fully into the Camino de Santiago.
Next to the old market square is the church of Santa Mariña; a temple that replaces the previous Romanesque work of the thirteenth century and of which only a drawing of the cover and a capital have been preserved.
In the heart of Sarria we also find the Casa del Batallón, a privately owned enclosure that is the only vestige of a 13th century fortress that was located in the town itself and of which only the southeast tower has been preserved. The Casa del Batallón was built to protect pilgrims in the 18th century.
On leaving Sarria and heading towards Portomarín we come across A Ponte de Áspera. A medieval bridge that crosses the river Celeiro to continue the French Way. Preserving its three Romanesque semicircular arches, this bridge that connects with the stage 28 dates, has other sections dating from the eighteenth century.
