Zarauz / Zarautz is a Guipuzcoan municipality of just over 23,000 inhabitants located in the Urola Costa region and in the center of the Basque Coast, just 15 kilometers from San Sebastián, the provincial capital. Pilgrims will cross Zarauz if they walk the Northern Way after leaving San Sebastián.
Zarauz / Zarautz is the starting point of the San Sebastián - Zarautz stage (22.2 km) and the starting point of the Zarautz - Deba stage (21.8 km) of the Northern Way.
Zarauz is a town located in the Urola Costa region, in the province of Guipúzcoa (Basque Country). It is a tourist town located on the Basque coast, which was founded in 1237 by Fernando III de Castilla. A peculiarity of this town is that until the 16th century, its inhabitants were exclusively dedicated to fishing, especially the whale.
