Hikers do not have to deviate from the pilgrim route to find bars open early in the morning to have breakfast. Now on the monumental Calle Rua, restaurants wakes up early to provide service to the pilgrims. In other nearby streets, such as in Fray Diego, there are also establishments open, like the bar of the same name, with lunch from 2, 5 euros.
Estella is a centre with plenty of services both for breakfast and lunch, all the requirements of pilgrims are covered. In this location, although the menu may be priced slightly higher than in other areas the majority of restaurants do offer a daily menu or a pilgrim menu for around 11 Euros and is often also available in the evening.
Other recommendations in the area are "calvotes" red beans accompanied by bacon and highly recommended for those cold winter days, piquillo peppers, cordero al chilindrón (lamb, red peppers, onions and garlic) or ajoarriero (dried cod with peppers, onion, garlic and tomato). A typical dessert is cheese from Urbasa and, to aid digestion, a glass of pacharán (a liquor made from sloe berries and anise).
