
This town was built by the romans, crossed by the river Mino, the Aquae Aurente, city of gold and of water, was the origin of the current capital of the province.
Ourense a crossroads of Caminos and a location blessed by its hot water springs (As Burgas are its medicinal mineral springs), was and still is terrain passed by pilgrims. With a population of around 107,000 inhabitants, it is the most populated town of interior Galicia, the third most inhabited after Vigo and A Coruña.
The Normans and Muslims invaded Ourense.
If you are traveling on the Camino de Santiago or are planning to do so soon, you should know that the distance separating Ourense from Santiago de Compostela is 105 kilometers.
