To link with the A-6 travellers should go to Lugo. Both towns are connected by the LU-612. From Santiago, the most direct route is through the N -547, the road that runs parallel to the Camino. For this it is necessary to connect to the C -535. Another option from the Galician capital is via Lalin, through the N -640.
Bus is the most common form of transport both into and out of Portomarín. In the village there is a small stop on the descending slope that leads to the main square. The enclave is connected both to Sarria and Lugo and services run with some frequency. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes in both cases and, tickets costs 3 euros. Correos offers a delivery backpacks service so you can walk without loads and enjoy the routes and stages. You can also purchase a packaging and shipment of bicycles service. The price is 42,03 euros (VAT included, shipping to mainland Spain). This is available in all offices.

As other options there is Peregrino Taxi (+34) 679 444 996, based in Paradela (Lugo), they work predominantly to provide transport from the airports of Santiago and A Coruña to the place from where pilgrims choose to begin their hike and, Taxi Peregrino (+34) 654 969 666 which offers customers, after completing a form, the ability to receive quotes by e- mail.
This service covers the whole of Galicia and also allows walkers to book and pay in advance on the website. The vehicles offered include; cars, vans, cars with baby seats or towing services for large luggage. For the transfer of backpacks, pilgrims have several options. The usual procedure for those sleeping in public shelters, and thus unable to reserve a place at their next accommodation until their time of arrival, is to designate a bar or another destination point where they can pick it up.
For those staying in private hostels or hotels, their backpack will be waiting for them at their next accommodation. The fee is 3 euros per step for all companies. With this company the price rises to 5 euros for the last stage, when the service enters the historic centre of Santiago. In both cases it is advisable to call in advance because the service vehicles with backpacks usually start delivery before 9.00. By noon, they are already at their destination.
For those arriving on horseback, there is free access to a shed in feira field, which has a dozen places.
