The cafes in Portomarín (including its supermarkets and grocery shops) open first thing in the morning to meet the needs of early risers. El Mirador, Café España and Café Arenas are all good choices for the first meal of the day. For Lunch Visitors should not leave Portomarín without first trying its famous empanada de anguilas (eel pie) prepared with loving care in both Bodegas Pérez and, in the local bakery. Another culinary strength is its almond tart.
For lunch, Bodegas Perez always provides exceptional service to pilgrims. It is located just opposite the Civil Guard barracks and has a menu of the day priced between 9 and 10 euros. Next to the church, In Posada el Camino, pilgrims can also enjoy a good meal at a reasonable price. El Mirador, with exceptional views over the waters of the river Miño, is another good choice, as is the Meson de Rodriguez, a classic in this town in Lugo. See the recommended restaurants
