The Northern Way borders the entire Cantabrian coast and enters Galicia from Ribadeo. Although its Indian houses and merchant houses, which are relatively recent, often stand out, there is heritage that goes back several centuries. This is the case of the Casa do Patín, which stands out for its careful façade with vines.
This is the oldest civil building in Ribadeo, because it conserves elements of the Middle Ages. The columned façade belongs to this period, although with reconstructions and additions the rest medieval features have been lost. Later, in the 18th century, the lineage of Menéndez-Navia and Villamil carried out changes in the building. Its coat of arms can be seen on the facade: it was a family from the area that got rich with the timber trade.
That's when it was added. the skate that gives its fame to the house. However, today it is not preserved due to the reforms that were made in the 20th century. Today it shares a patio with the Public Library, which is located in another historic building: the School of Navigation and Commerce. In the street that passes behind the house there are remains of the old Wall of Ribadeo.
