The Monastery of San Xusto, also known as Toxos Autos, is located at the foot of the San Xusto River; an enclave that, like many others in Galicia, has a long history of legends and mysteries around it, as well as curiosities related to the history of the place.
After being acquired by the knights Froylán Alonso and Pedro Muñiz de Carnota between 1129 and 1133, the monastery became one of the most important and popular in Galicia due to its wealth. The riches were such that in the fourteenth century both the nobility and the clergy proclaimed a distribution of them.
At the beginning of the 16th century, the monastery began to lose some of its most valuable possessions and, therefore, part of the fame that it had earned for itself some time before. In 1835 and the confiscation of that year, the monastery of San Xusto de Toxosoutos was completely abandoned.
After passing from hand to hand during the following centuries, the monastery is today a beautiful place characterized by the nature that surrounds it; revealing some of the best preserved rooms in the place.
