At the time of making the Jacobean route, one of the topics that generate more doubts and related questions when it comes to seeing how to do the Camino de Santiago, is the compostela. The compostela is a document issued by the ecclesiastical authorities that documents that you have completed at least 100 kilometers of the Camino de Santiago, regardless of whether you have done it on foot or on horseback. However, to do it by bicycle this number increases to 200 kilometers. On the other hand, just as there is a certain number of kilometers, there are also some requirements to obtain the compostela.

In relation to the question when the Camino de Santiago began, this document has special relation to its origin. It exists since the pilgrimages began to extend to visit the tomb of Santiago Apóstol, due to the need to want to have a document that accredited the path taken. The compostela is delivered to all those pilgrims who have reached these figures with their duly stamped Camino de Santiago credential, on the different Jacobean routes.

There is an official model of the Camino de Santiago credential that can be requested at the Pilgrimage Office of the Diocese of Santiago. Or, in other institutions that have the authorization of the Cathedral of Santiago, such as parishes, associations of friends of the Camino de Santiago, pilgrim shelters, brotherhoods, etc.
