Wheel cover

The first thing to take into account is the status of the wheels. I recommend you to buy new ones, during this trip they will wear away, by the road and the weight of the saddlebag. You have to be practical, buy new ones, and don’t take the risk to start this trip with some old wheels!

Tools you should take with you

You must take the basic!! You can not be heavy! The best option is a multi-purpose tool. You can also bring tire lever, puncture kit (basic and very recommendable) and a tube (make sure it’s the same measure of your wheel).

Maintenance

It’s very important to take a good care of your bike. Your worst enemy will be the mud, try cleaning your bike as much as you can, specially the breaks, chain wheel and gear. You should put in your toolbox an inflating bomb, and always check the air of the wheels.

If you take into account these little details you won’t have any problems. As popular as it is the Camino de Santiago you will always have nearby places if any problem comes along with you or your bicycle.

The key

After speaking to some pilgrims and some cycling lovers, I found a very useful item, the cable tie.

It turns that the cable tie, it is very cheap, and have multiple uses for both, the bicycle and to hold your luggage, saddlebags or the basket. Are very resistant and doesn’t weight much. It on resist varying temperatures, water and kilometers without breaking. You can find packages of 50 or more for an average price of 3 euros, at hardware stores.

If you follow these instructions, you won’t have major complications along the way.

Your bicycle will be your transport during this trip so before anything, take it to a previous inspection so a professional can check it and solve anything it has to be solved!! You will thanks this later!!

So now! You have all the information you need! Prepare your tools, check your bicycle and go for it!
